Peter and Paul Okoye of continental pop duo P-Square throw some musical muscle behind their protege, talented Square Records artiste May D on his latest single, ‘You Want To Know Me’. Released concurrently with two other singles (‘Gat Me High’ and the high-tempo ‘Ile Ijo’), ‘You Want To Know Me’ follows up on the successes of ‘One Night Stand’ and the controversially erotic ‘Soundtrack’, hinting at an upcoming debut album.

Even though he is in heady company on the groovy track, the climbing singer holds his own, belting out notes in a voice that will shame all but the most seasoned Nigerian vocalists. Bottom line: May D is good, very good.You want to know him and you want to listen.

Comedian and Afrobeats artiste Tunde Ednut finally debuts the music video of ‘Catching Cold (Remix)’, his Legendary Beats-crafted azonto-style club jam which features Dr. ‘Mavin’ SID. Directed by female cinematographer Rafeeqah Galant (L-Tido’s ‘Smash’ video), the three and a half minute clip sees Mr. Ednut and the ‘Over The Moon’ crooner in hot pursuit of a mysterious beauty through a scenic mountain route.

Apparently, the combination of fast-moving retro convertibles, Kokomaster antics, azonto dance moves and a light-skinned woman make for a pretty slick short film. Is Tunde Ednut gearing up to be the next D’banj? Well, the jury’s still out on that one.

Fresh off the celebrated launch of his Mavin Records label and the release of its star-studded collaborative debut album, ‘Solar Plexus’, producer extraordinaire Don Jazzy revisits his past by putting a techno spin on his most acclaimed production yet - D’banj’s record-setting Afrobeats single, ‘Oliver Twist’.

Jazzing up the original instrumentals with a variety of electronic sounds and adding a reverb effect to the Kokomaster’s vocals, the Don literally takes the track from one musical genre to another, once again proving (rhetorically) that he is, well, a don. Is this remix better than the original?

With her (not so) new single ‘Don’t Wanna Leave’, the Kennis Music artiste is making a bid to take over your music player too.

Taken from her latest studio album,‘Gold Reloaded’, ‘Don’t Wanna Leave’ is a full-fledged pop track drenched in Auto-Tune – the current darling of Nigerian music artistes. The upbeat love song is not quite on the level of her recent hit ‘Don’t Touch’ and falls way below the standard of her 2010 eLDee-produced radio smasher, ‘You Know It’. Still, Goldie’s living her life like it’s golden, who are we to rain on her parade? Turn up the music.

BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Afrobeat Sessions: Donae’o & Sneakbo Remix D’banj’s ‘Oliver Twist’

As a part of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Afrobeats Week, the urban music station invited a number of fast-rising African-born hip hop artistes (including Nigerian rapper Ice Prince) to perform songs from their repertoire live in its Maida Vale studios accompanied by African house band The Rhythms. Here’s a video of Ghanaian-English emcee Donae’o and Nigerian-born UK rapper Sneakbo (real name Agassi Odusina) pulling off a remix/reinvention of D’banj’s massive Afrobeats hit, ‘Oliver Twist’. Will someone please call Don Jazzy?
